Ford Ranger Towing and Fuel Saving
Towing with the Ford Ranger Wildtrak PX3
Driving a 2019 Ford Ranger Wildtrak PX3 equipped with
a 2-litre Bi-Turbo engine provides an exciting combination of power and
efficiency, especially when it comes to travelling.
Recently, we embarked on a journey from Brisbane to
Cairns for a car show, towing a show car along with all the necessary gear,
which totaled more than 3,000 kg.
During this trip, we achieved a fuel consumption of 20 to 21 litres per 100 kilometres. While this figure is quite standard for such a heavy load, the experience of driving through the picturesque landscapes of Queensland and attending the show was well worth it.
In an effort to enhance performance and fuel economy, we subsequently installed a Hydro Auto Tech system on my Ranger.

This enhancement became particularly
beneficial during our next venture to a motor show in Melbourne, where we again
towed the same substantial load. Remarkably, this time, my fuel consumption
improved significantly to around 15 to 15.7 litres per 100 kilometres.
The
installation of the Hydro Auto Tech system not only maximized the efficiency of
my vehicle but also provided me with more torque while towing, knowing that I
was getting the most out of my fuel.
With fuel prices at the time in May 2026, this improvement in fuel economy translated into substantial savings, amounting to approximately $600 for the round trip. Such savings are critical, especially for automotive enthusiasts who frequently travel to events showcasing their vehicles. Overall, the combination of the Ford Ranger's capabilities, the beneficial modifications made to the engine, and the stunning travel experience made this journey not just economically viable, but a truly memorable adventure in the world of motoring.
